Splitchain is the network system that underpins Zucoin.
In the crypto industry, this is known as the base layer of a network, or a "layer 1".
Unlike traditional blockchains, which group transactions into "blocks" (like pages in a book ledger), Splitchain caches cryptographic transaction results in parallel without grouping them into blocks.
This architecture allows faster "settlements" (the point at which a transaction is confirmed and finalized) because transactions are processed in parallel.
It reduces the waiting time for network servers, known as "nodes," to sync the latest transaction updates.
On the Splitchain network, nodes operate differently from traditional blockchains.
Nodes do not need to engage in a "consensus vote", a common blockchain process where a 51% majority of nodes must agree on a transaction's validity before moving forward.
Instead, the primary role of Splitchain nodes is to efficiently distribute and provide rapid access to temporarily stored ("cached") information used for transaction validation.
This design means Splitchain functions without traditional "miners" or "staking validators," which are participants required to secure many other types of cryptocurrency networks.
Splitchain effectively inverts the conventional blockchain model.
In typical systems, the network nodes perform the majority of the computational work.
With Splitchain, however, nodes mainly serve as data caches.
The Zucoin wallet app on your device manages your Zucoin and handles most validation, processing, acceptance, and submission work.
Your Zucoin transactions are stored one by one directly within your Zucoin wallet.
The wallet is "self-managed" ("self-custodial" in technical terms), giving you full control over your own data.
Essential information such as your transaction history, contacts, and wallet addresses are all stored locally on your device.
This ensures your data remains private and easily accessible.
These architectural decisions allow for safer and more efficient transfers without the complexity of blocks or unexpected transaction-fee spikes, making it suitable for everyday digital transactions.
