Splitchain, Zucoin, the Zucoin wallet app, and Zutopia are connected, but each one has a different job.
Splitchain is the network, Zucoin is the digital asset used on that network, the Zucoin wallet app lets you manage and transfer Zucoin, and Zutopia is a peer-to-peer marketplace where users can buy or sell Zucoin.
Together, they support direct transfers between users while keeping each user's Zucoin under the control of their own wallet.
At a glance
- Splitchain: The caching network that helps wallets find the latest settled transaction information needed to check and settle transfers.
- Zucoin: The digital asset transferred between users on the Splitchain network.
- Zucoin wallet app: The self-managed app that stores your wallet data and lets you send, receive, and manage Zucoin.
- Zutopia: A peer-to-peer marketplace that helps Zucoin buyers and sellers trade directly with each other.
What happens when Zucoin is transferred?
A Zucoin transfer takes place between two Zucoin wallets.
- The sender starts the transfer: The sender enters the receiver's wallet address, amount, and other transaction details in the Zucoin wallet app.
- The receiver reviews the transfer: The receiver checks and accepts the transfer in their own Zucoin wallet.
- Both wallets confirm the transaction: The two wallets take part in creating and confirming the transaction information before the transfer settles.
- Splitchain makes the latest proof available: Wallets can find and validate the latest settled transaction information they need through the caching network.
- The full history stays with the user: Transaction history remains in the user's wallet rather than being copied into one continuously growing public chain.
How is Splitchain different from a blockchain?
Traditional blockchain networks usually group transactions into blocks and use miners or staking validators to process and confirm them.
Splitchain takes a different approach:
- No blocks: Splitchain caches cryptographic transaction results in parallel instead of grouping transactions into blocks.
- Parallel processing: Different wallets can work on separate transfers at the same time.
- Caching nodes: Splitchain nodes mainly cache the latest settled transaction data so the information remains available to peers.
- Wallet-based validation: Zucoin wallet apps handle much of the transaction processing and validation.
- No traditional mining or staking: Splitchain does not require traditional miners or staking validators.
- No network transaction fee: Zucoin-to-Zucoin wallet transfers do not have a network transaction fee.
How does Zutopia fit in?
Zutopia is a separate marketplace system that works with the existing Zucoin wallet app.
- Peer-to-peer trading: Zutopia helps a Zucoin buyer and seller find each other and complete a direct trade.
- Your existing wallet: Zutopia works with the user's Zucoin wallet rather than replacing it with a marketplace wallet.
- No Zucoin custody: Zutopia does not hold the user's Zucoin.
- Wallet-to-wallet transfer: The Zucoin moves from one user's wallet to the other user's wallet after the required steps are confirmed.
- User confirmation: Both users follow the prompts and review the trade details before completing the transaction.
What stays under the user's control?
The Zucoin wallet is self-managed, sometimes called self-custodial.
- Wallet data: Private keys, wallet backups, transaction history, contacts, and other wallet data stay with the user.
- Private information: Zutopia and support staff do not need your wallet backup file or private key.
- Backups: Make regular wallet backups and keep them somewhere safe and private.
- Device protection: Protect the device that holds your Zucoin wallet and do not give other people access.
- Transaction checks: Review the other party, amount, price, and transaction details before confirming.
- Official systems: Only connect through official Zucoin and Zutopia systems.
